Creative Visions Foundation update
Amazing how time flies! It’s seems like only yesterday when we first met Kathy Eldon at a United Nations’ luncheon and was invited to join her program. Over a year has passed and it’s time to renew our membership and participation with her Creative Visions Foundation. Kathy and her daughter Amy have dedicated their lives to keeping the memory of Dan Eldon (son and brother) alive by inspiring and helping artists create social change through the arts. They have a beautiful

Women for Afghan Women update
We have been trying for several months to catch up with Sunita Viswanath, one of the co-founders, of Women for Afghan Women (WAW) and today was the day for that call. Since we last spoke they have been extremely busy lobbying, educating and helping Afghan women both here in the United States and Afghanistan. This isn’t our first blog about her organization but they continue to do such impressive work we just had to give everyone at update. As you may remember, we met WAW i

Conflict in the Congo
Wanted to give an update about the events transpiring in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since we spent a week in Goma, DRC with UNICEF and UN Mine Action Services last year while doing research for our play, we have been watching the situation developing in this troubled country with great interest. Only one year ago, we were talking with NGO’s about the progress they were making assisting victims of violence and their ongoing struggles for funding and today refugees are

Latest NY trip
New York and theatre, what could be better? We just got back from a fun and jam-packed week in the Big Apple. Thanks to Daniela and Jon with UNDPI and UNCCOI, we were able to begin talking to various UN Departments about the cause marketing and “Take Action” campaign that will accompany our play. We met with UN Women, UN Mine Action Services, UN Department of Peacekeeping, UNICEF, UN Office on Drugs and Crime and finally the United Nations Department of Public Information

Safe Spaces & the L.A. Sparks
They finally arrived! It took more than a month, but the uniforms donated by the L.A. Sparks have made their way to the girls in the Safe Spaces program in Nairobi, Kenya. For those not familiar with them, the L.A. Sparks is the professional WNBA team here in Los Angeles. Following our trip to Kenya, we met with Diana Imhoff with the L.A. Sparks to tell her about an amazing program we spent time with in Nairobi. Following our meeting they agreed to donate uniforms. Thi

A week in the life
Finally a week without many off-site meetings and lunches! As much as networking is an important element to any successful project, it was great to spend time in our office, actually working on the numerous aspects of our play rather than rushing off to meet with various people/organizations. It was also nice to have a few days that didn’t require us to sit in Southern California traffic. So how did we spend our time? It was filled, and I do mean filled, with conversa

Meet one of our creative partners
In the course of doing research and development for our play, we’ve had the good fortune to meet incredible people doing great humanitarian work. Through our association with the United Nations, we were introduced to the Creative Visions Foundation (CVF) and Kathy Eldon. Kathy and her daughter Amy founded this organization with the mission of fostering and aiding artists turned activists who use their talents to shine a spotlight on current social issues. CVF supports thes

What we've been up to...
We spent the month of March traveling to both Florida and New York. Florida, actually Delray Beach, was our first stop to hear a reading of the first act of our play. Marsha was invited to be the keynote speaker at the Arts Garage New Works Festival. She did an amazing job speaking about her career and life in general. Immediately following her talk, she presented the first act of our new play. What a rush! We were thrilled with the reception we got from the audience.

Ecuador and then home
So this is Ecuador... what a beautiful country. It is a country that seems to be coming into it's own and women are playing a major role. Although still country full of tradition and history, the young women we encountered are becoming more empowered to want and demand a life free from violence. Domestic violence is a huge issue in Ecuador and it has been a struggle for the women there to find a common voice to speak out against this type of treatment. UN Women (one of th

Heading toward our last country
So when we left you last, I was recovering from a nasty bout of food poisoning and my time in a cholera tent at a Doctors Without Borders (Medicines sans Frontiers) Hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti. I was devastated that we weren’t able to visit with female peacekeepers in Haiti due to my inability to keep anything solid or liquid in my body or stand up on my own. After the non-stop travel by air, rail, boat, UN and CARE security vehicles, tuk tuks, camel (ok that was cool
