What we've been up to...

We spent the month of March traveling to both Florida and New York. Florida, actually Delray Beach, was our first stop to hear a reading of the first act of our play. Marsha was invited to be the keynote speaker at the Arts Garage New Works Festival. She did an amazing job speaking about her career and life in general. Immediately following her talk, she presented the first act of our new play. What a rush! We were thrilled with the reception we got from the audience. A question and answer period followed the reading and we actually ran out of time discussing the issues presented in her work. It really generated a powerful reaction from the audience – exactly what we were hoping for. Following a few sunny days in Florida, we headed up to New York City for International Women’s Day events. We were invited to attend several panels at the United Nations, courtesy of our friends at the Creative Community Outreach Initiative (UN Department of Public Information). The opening remarks featured Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon and an address from Michelle Bachelet, the Executive Director of UN Women. This year’s theme was empowering rural women – ending hunger and poverty. The next day we headed to Lincoln Center for the start of the Women in the World Conference, which is sponsored by Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Tina Brown runs the annual conference and put together an amazing group of women. It was three days of inspiring conversations and interviews with activists, NGO’s and political figures. Everyone from Madeleine Albright to Angelina Jolie to Christiane Amanpour to Hillary Clinton was there. We also had the opportunity to hear from the President of Kosovo, Sheryl WuDunn, Molly Melching and Meryl Streep. In addition to events, we managed to squeeze in a little work – meeting with advertising agencies, and hopefully our director. He is truly amazing and we are hopeful we can get him signed and officially on the project. Stay tuned for “director” updates!
