After months of planning, our play had its first professional reading in Los Angeles on Friday night.   We flew our playwright, Marsha Norman and director, Lear deBessonet in from New York and they spent a week working on the play with our SAG cast.   We are pleased to say that we had a full house and the reading went exceptionally well.    The audience also had the chance to ask Marsha and Lear questions about the play i...

Marsha has her first draft complete and we are going to do a private reading in Los Angeles.  Could not be more excited!  It will be the first time people on the west coast will get a chance to hear her newest work.   Panasonic Hollywood Lab has gratuitously agreed to donate a rehearsal space and the use of their screening room to host this reading.  Now the tricky part will be agreeing on a date that works for everyone....

Julliard was the place and April 9, 2013 was the date- the date of our first full reading of the play!   It’s hard to put into words the level of excitement and anxiety we felt while waiting for the reading to begin.  Luckily we had the good sense to plan a great lunch with Joanna, a good friend and supporter of our project that day.   For those who don’t know, Joanna (now retired) was our contact at the United Nations an...

September is here and that means we are very, very close to getting the first draft of the script!  It’s been like waiting for Christmas when you were a kid.  The closer we get, the greater the anticipation.  Everyone has worked so hard to get to this point – the travel, the interviews, the meetings and research will pay off in just days.  Now don’t get me wrong, I know it’s only the first draft and there will be re-write...

New York and theatre, what could be better?  We just got back from a fun and jam-packed week in the Big Apple.   Thanks to Daniela and Jon with UNDPI and UNCCOI, we were able to begin talking to various UN Departments about the cause marketing and “Take Action” campaign that will accompany our play.  We met with UN Women, UN Mine Action Services, UN Department of Peacekeeping, UNICEF, UN Office on Drugs and Crime and fina...

Finally a week without many off-site meetings and lunches!    As much as networking is an important element to any successful project, it was great to spend time in our office, actually working on the numerous aspects of our play rather than rushing off to meet with various people/organizations.   It was also nice to have a few days that didn’t require us to sit in Southern California traffic.   So how did we spend our ti...

We spent the month of March traveling to both Florida and New York.  Florida, actually Delray Beach, was our first stop to hear a reading of the first act of our play.  Marsha was invited to be the keynote speaker at the Arts Garage New Works Festival.  She did an amazing job speaking about her career and life in general.  Immediately following her talk, she presented the first act of our new play.  What a rush!  We were...

We are down to less than 24 hours before we leave and what a day it has been!  Our press release about the play and our playwright went out this morning.  For those of you who missed it, we are thrilled to announce that Marsha Norman will be writing this piece.  That's right, THE Marsha Norman - Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner.  The release was picked up by great entities - Playbill.com broke the news, followed by Br...
